Yamaha Corporation (Nippon Gakki), the Japanese maker of musical instruments and electronics, entered professional audio in 1972 with its first PM-series analogue console. Building on the digital signal-processing expertise gained from its FM synthesizers (DX7, 1983), Yamaha pioneered digital mixing with the 1987 DMP7 and went on to build an entire lineage of digital consoles (DMP11, ProMix 01, 02R series, PM1D, CL/QL series, DM7).
