History & design
Launched in 2003, the Yamaha 01V96 is the 96 kHz version of the 01V, the mixer that invented the small-format digital desk in 1998. It runs at 24-bit / 96 kHz, handles up to 40 simultaneous inputs and offers 16 analogue inputs (12 with head amps), a stereo bus, 8 group buses and 8 auxiliary buses.
The surface has 17 motorised faders, an LCD display and a data wheel. The rear panel provides a stereo output, four OMNI outputs, a monitor output, word clock, ADAT optical, coaxial S/PDIF and MIDI, plus a Mini-YGDAI slot for 16 extra I/O channels. On effects, four multi-effects are available at 48 kHz (two at 96 kHz).
The range evolved into the 01V96VCM (Virtual Circuitry Modeling effects) and, in 2012, the 01V96i, which adds a USB 2.0 interface with 16 inputs / 16 outputs for multitrack recording. Editing is done through 01V96 Editor (Studio Manager).
