History & design
The Yamaha 01X is an “mLAN Digital Mixing Studio”: a 28-channel digital mixer, a DAW control surface and an audio/MIDI interface in one, introduced in 2004. Every channel has 4-band parametric EQ and a dynamics section (compressor, gate, limiter), backed by two 32-bit effects processors.
The surface offers eight motorised faders, a master fader, eight encoders and a transport section with jog wheel for DAW control. Connectivity is built on mLAN (IEEE 1394 FireWire), carrying 24-bit / 96 kHz multichannel audio, MIDI and sync over a single cable; up to 63 mLAN devices can be chained. Two phantom-powered mic/line inputs and a multi-port MIDI interface round it out. Setup is managed from the Studio Manager software.
