Our take
History & design
The Yamaha DM2000 is a digital production console launched in 2002. It handles 96 mixing channels, all available up to 96 kHz, feeding 8 group buses, a main stereo bus, 12 aux sends and a 4-stereo matrix. Conversion is 24-bit with 128× oversampling, and internal processing runs at 32-bit with a 58-bit accumulator.
Each input channel has a gate, attenuator, 4-band parametric EQ, two compressors, delay and pan — the latter including 5.1 surround positioning, one of the console's strengths for picture post. The surface lines up 24 motorised touch-sensitive 100 mm faders plus a master fader, across four layers (1-24, 25-48, 49-72, 73-96), around a 320×240 backlit LCD.
The DM2000 is configured through six mini-YGDAI expansion slots that accept AES/EBU, ADAT, mLAN or analogue cards, and twenty-four mic/line inputs with head amps and phantom power are built in. It also serves as a remote-control surface for Pro Tools and Nuendo, and comes with the Studio Manager software for offline editing. Dynamic automation and scene memories with total recall round out the package. The DM2000VCM version (2008) adds Yamaha's VCM processing.
