History & design
The Yamaha RIVAGE PM5 is a flagship digital mixing system unveiled on 20 May 2020, alongside the PM3 and two new processing engines. It comprises the CS-R5 control surface and an outboard DSP engine: the surface performs no processing on its own.
The CS-R5 has three banks of twelve motorised faders (38 faders total including the master section) and three touchscreens, weighing around 42 kg. Processing is handled by the DSP-RX engine (120 inputs, 48 mix buses, 24 matrices) or DSP-RX-EX (288 inputs, 72 buses, 36 matrices) at a 96 kHz sampling rate. Each engine has four HY card slots (up to 256 I/O) and two Mini-YGDAI slots.
The system uses the proprietary TWINLANe optical network and RPio622/RPio222 I/O racks, along with HY144-D Dante cards. Control and preparation are handled through Rivage PM Editor, the StageMix app and the MonitorMix personal-monitor app.
