Our take
History & design
Introduced in October 2006, Solid State Logic's Duality is a large-format SuperAnalogue analogue console with integrated digital audio workstation control. Offered in 24 or 48 channels, it carries over part of the K Series (XL 9000 K) technology at a price announced as about half as much.
Each channel pairs a transparent SuperAnalogue preamp with a VHD (Variable Harmonic Drive) stage that adds adjustable harmonic distortion, a parametric EQ and a motorised fader. The audio path stays analogue while a digitally controlled gain element allows recall. The surface drives the DAW through the HUI or Mackie Control protocols, with VCA-style or moving-fader automation; TFT displays cover all channels for levels, settings and routing. Monitoring handles up to 5.1 with multiple stereo busses or stems.
The range grew with the Duality SE (K Series features and the VHD preamp), the Duality δelta (Delta control) and the Duality Fuse, which builds the Fusion processor into the centre section.
