History & design
The C300 HD Master Studio System is an assignable digital console dedicated to film and television post-production (sound editing, sweetening, mixing, film scoring). Shown in its HD version at NAB 2008 (an evolution of the mid-2000s C300), it separates the control surface from the Centuri processing core: an SSL proprietary industrial computer paired with modular DSP and I/O cards.
From that single core, the console handles over 500 mix inputs, 80 mix buses and true multi-operator working: it scales from 8 to 96 faders (up to a 128-fader, three-operator system) and accepts up to 512 inputs. Built for the immersive sound of the era, it handles stereo, 5.1, 7.1 and Dolby, with 4 x 7.1 monitor outputs, a 128×8 monitor matrix, a 32×16 re-record matrix, 64 PEC/Direct switches and 8-channel monitor insert points. It runs at 96 kHz with HD/Tri-Level sync.
True to the philosophy pioneered on the AWS 900+, the C300 HD integrates DAW control (HUI emulation of up to 4 DAWs simultaneously): the workstation literally moves into the console for instant back-and-forth between editing and mixing.
