History & design
The Fairlight Xynergi is a desktop "Media Production Centre" launched in September 2007, halfway between a control keyboard and a mixing surface, aimed at audio post-production for picture. Its signature is a "picture keys" keyboard: mechanical keys each embedding a small colour screen able to display icons, text or animations, reconfiguring contextually to drive recording, editing and mixing. The surface adds eight touch-sensitive rotary encoders and multiple soft keys around a high-resolution control zone called the "pad".
Xynergi is built around Fairlight's Crystal Core CC-1 engine: a single PCIe card carrying a 192-track editor and a mix engine able to process up to 230 channels, 220 physical MADI inputs/outputs, 72 buses and onboard video (HD or SD), with EQ and dynamics on every channel and third-party plug-in support — all with a stated total latency below 0.5 ms for about 12 W of power draw, thanks to an FPGA architecture.
