The Fairlight MFX3plus (MFX3+) is a hybrid digital audio workstation combining, in a single system, a 24-track non-destructive hard-disk recorder/editor and a fully automated digital mixing console. It works in 16-, 20- and 24-bit within a single project.
The mixer offers 36 channels and 12 buses (upgradeable to 48 channels and 24 buses) driven by 16 touch-sensitive, long-throw, motorized assignable faders. Dynamic automation covers levels, mutes, pans, aux sends, EQ and dynamics; every channel has a 4-band EQ and a dynamics module. On the recording side, the MFX3+ replaces a conventional analog/digital multitrack: up to 24 tracks of simultaneous real-time record/replay locked to timecode, with all editing functions. The system consists of a 6U mainframe (master processor, clock, timecode, I/O cards, master hard drive, removable MO and/or Exabyte backup), a dedicated console (FAME) and a color monitor. The MFX3+ provides 24 digital and analog ins/outs and stereo and surround monitoring up to 5.1.
