History & design
POLARIS is the line of digital mixing consoles from the German maker Salzbrenner (Salzbrenner Stagetec Mediagroup), aimed at theatre, live performance and broadcasting. In its modern form, POLARIS Evolution (shown in 2014) is built on an IP-networked mixing and processing architecture: a shared DSP core, the POLARIS Scala, where control surfaces connect over Ethernet or WiFi and resources are allocated on demand.
The system allows multiple operators and simultaneous productions on one engine, extensive show automation (cue lists, unlimited automation groups), additional formats such as Mid-Side and 5.1, system cascading and lighting control via DMX or MIDI. It relies on the RAVENNA, MADI and Dante network protocols.
