History & design
Introduced in 2014, the Genesys Black is the modernised version of AMS Neve's Genesys (2009). It is a modular analogue studio console with digital control: the signal stays analogue (Neve 1073 mic preamps, Neve EQ, optional VCA dynamics), but every routing decision, every switch and the EQ and dynamics settings can be stored and recalled instantly (Total Recall).
The console comes in 16 to 96 channels (24 to 64 faders depending on the frame), with integrated monitoring and optional A/D-D/A conversion via AD/DA cassettes (16 in / 8 out per card, in MADI, AES or FireWire). The surface includes a large 23-inch touchscreen and multi-DAW control (Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Nuendo), with motorized faders tying the console to the workstation.
