Our take
History & design
The Libra Live is a fully digital mixing console designed by AMS Neve specifically for live television and radio and mission-critical broadcast production. Derived from the Libra platform, it inherits the assignable architecture — a path's processing is recalled into the AFU via the strip's ACCESS key — hardened for on-air work: fast reconfiguration between formats, redundancy and reliability.
An all-digital system, the Libra Live can be reconfigured on the fly to mono, stereo or 5.1; the number of mono/stereo channels, the placement of processing and the count of inputs/outputs can be changed within minutes. DSP is provided by SSP, ESP or XSP cards in the racks, in a quantity independent of the number of faders on the surface; I/O (analogue and digital) connects to the DSP core over MADI. The engine runs at 44.1 or 48 kHz. The EQ sweeps from 12 Hz to 20 kHz with ±24 dB of cut/boost and a Q adjustable from 0.1 to 10.
The surface — the documented Series II version typically carrying 42 faders — features assignable meters, the Encore screen and keyboard, a main AFU section, machine control and automation. Data storage (ISS automation) relies on approved SCSI drives.
