Our take
History & design
The AMS Neve 88RS (the "RS" evolution of the 88R launched in 2001) is a large in-line analogue studio console available from 48 to 96 channels. It marked AMS Neve's return to an all-new analogue console after nearly twenty years.
Its audio path stays fully analogue, but every control is driven and stored by the Encore Plus automation system, which merges Flying Faders (aimed at music) with Logic automation (aimed at post-production), with total recall of control positions. Each in-line strip gives simultaneous access to input and tape-return paths, a Neve-type EQ and integrated dynamics. The 88RS natively handles stereo, LCRS and 5.1, up to 7.1. Crucially for a studio, it runs manually even without Encore, guaranteeing the session continues in the event of a computer failure.
