History & design
The Ramsa WR-DA7 is a compact digital mixing console launched by Panasonic in the late 1990s. It offers 32 inputs, 8 mix buses and 6 aux sends (with dedicated returns), for 38 channels in total counting the aux returns.
Each channel features a 4-band parametric EQ and a full dynamics section (compressor/limiter, gate, expander) with delay. The 24-bit A/D and D/A converters claim over 110 dB of dynamic range. The console includes 5.1 mixing as standard, a rare asset for a machine of this size at the time.
The surface has 21 motorized faders arranged in layers: channel levels 1–16 (layer 1), 17–32 (layer 2), auxiliaries and buses (layer 3), plus a customizable layer that can reassign the faders and drive MIDI parameters. Automation is both dynamic and snapshot-based, with 200 memories and an optional automation software module.
For integration, the WR-DA7 carries RS-422 and RS-485 links and accepts SMPTE time code as an option, which made it popular in video post-production. Its digital I/O is expanded through optional cards (ADAT, AES/EBU). A MkII version followed the original model.
