History & design
The Vi6 launched Soundcraft's Vi range, unveiled at the Frankfurt Musikmesse in March 2006. It was developed jointly with Studer, Soundcraft's sister brand within Harman: it draws on the proven reliability of the Vista and OnAir 3000 series and on a derivative of their Vistonics interface, called Vistonics II.
The surface carries four Vistonics II modules, each controlling eight input channels. A module pairs a colour TFT touch screen with sixteen rotary encoders and sixteen keys mounted directly on the glass, placing the controls right next to the parameter on screen: routing, input gain, digital trim, delay, high- and low-pass filters, four-band fully parametric EQ, compressor, limiter, gate, de-esser and pan.
The audio path uses a DSP engine and algorithms from Studer. The console handles up to 64 channels mapped across two layers under 32 motorised faders, assignable to 32 outputs on top of the main LCR and LR solo buses. The 32 group/aux/matrix buses are joined by up to 16 matrix outputs. Audio is handled by a local rack and stageboxes linked to the surface over an optical MADI connection, together forming the SCore Live system.
