History & design
The Console 1 Fader is a control surface made by Sweden's Softube, introduced in January 2020 as a companion to the Console 1 controller (2014). It lines up ten touch-sensitive 100 mm Alps motorised faders, each flanked by solo, mute and select buttons, an LED bargraph and a continuous rotary encoder for pan and menu navigation.
Like the rest of the Console 1 system, the surface does not drive the DAW through a generic protocol: it communicates with the Console 1 software, which in turn is linked to the channels by inserting a plug-in on every track. The fader then reflects the level of the channel processed by the console emulation (Tube or Discrete) rather than the DAW's native fader. The powder-coated steel chassis connects over USB 2.0 and needs no external power supply.
A Mk III generation, launched in 2024, adds ten individual screens, USB-C connectivity and extra control modes (Pro Tools HUI, generic MCU, UAD Apollo).
