Our take
History & design
The diamond is a modular broadcast console built by Lawo for radio and television. Fully IP-native, it is based on the open AES67/RAVENNA standards and complies with SMPTE ST2110-30/-31 and ST2022-7 for transport redundancy.
The surface is made of modules — fader modules, central and combo modules, extension modules — combinable in table-top or flush-mounted builds, up to eight modules wide as a single unit, and combinable to reach sixty physical faders (up to 120 virtual across multiple layers). It carries over the touch-sensitive motorised 100 mm faders and colour-guided rotaries of the mc² consoles, with context-sensitive colour displays along the strips.
Processing is handled by the software-defined Power Core engine, with modular I/O (MADI, AES3, Dante, analogue). The console includes mix-minus (clean feed), conference logic, snapshot management, a user-rights system (on-screen, SSO or RFID login) and the diamond apps (VisTool) for off-console display and control. Launched in late 2021, it targets radio and TV on-air studios in IP infrastructures.
