History & design
The Lawo zirkon is a fully digital on-air radio mixing console aimed at small and mid-sized broadcasters. Of modular design, it offers a scalable, flat control panel that fits into a worktop, with analogue and digital interfaces. Its ergonomics keep only the essential functions on the channel strip, everything else being operated from the central module and visualised via the VisTool software. It handles two independent PFL and two independent mix-minus systems and, in Sig80 DSP mode, up to 40 additional channels with EQ, dynamics and limiter. A serial or IP protocol allows dialogue with radio automation systems. Offered as zirkonXL, it went through several software versions (v2.8, then v3 in April 2009 with an intercom matrix) before being replaced by the sapphire consoles.
