History & design
The D888 is a digital recorder-mixer launched by Korg in 2006, designed to be operated like a small analog console. Each channel strip lays out, in a straight line, a combined XLR/TRS jack input with balanced mic preamp and 48 V phantom power, a trim knob, a 3-band EQ, an effect send, a pan and a fader — with no menus to dig through. Beneath that surface sits an 8-track recorder on an internal 40 GB hard drive, able to record and play all 8 tracks at once in uncompressed 16-bit / 44.1 kHz WAV.
Each track has 8 virtual tracks, for 64 tracks in total, alongside a stereo master track. Editing stays deliberately simple: punch-in/out, copy, swap, four locate points per song, one hundred marks, non-destructive editing with undo. Eleven digital master effects (reverbs and echoes) round out the mix. Connectivity includes a USB 2.0 port to move files to a computer, a MIDI Time Code output and an optical S/PDIF output, plus switchable individual outputs on channels 5 to 8.
