History & design
The Tascam DM-4800 is the top model of the DM series, a 64-channel digital console (48 full-function channels and 16 simple channels) released in the mid-2000s. It offers 24 buses, 12 aux sends, 48 direct outputs and a stereo bus, with a 4-band parametric EQ and dynamics on every channel, plus two effect processors.
Its signature is the full-channel section: a strip of dedicated controls giving direct access to the selected channel's dynamics, EQ, aux levels and panning. The surface carries 25 x 100 mm motorised touch-sensitive faders (24 channel plus stereo) and 24 LED-ring encoders, arranged in layers.
Digitally, it holds three TDIF-1 interfaces (24 channels) and an ADAT link, runs 44.1 to 96 kHz at 24-bit and has four expansion slots (FireWire, ADAT, AES/EBU, analog, TDIF, surround monitor). Three surround matrices and optional multichannel monitoring also aim it at post-production.
