Our take
History & design
The Tascam TM-D4000 is a studio digital mixing console introduced in 1998. It offers 36 channels (up to 32 inputs depending on configuration), eight output buses, six aux sends, two stereo returns and a stereo master, all in 24-bit conversion through to the final output.
Its strength is the modular construction: I/O cards are chosen to suit the setup (analogue, ADAT, TDIF, AES/EBU). The surface lines up sixteen long-throw motorised channel faders arranged in layers, plus master faders, with 4-band parametric EQ per channel. It all benefits from dynamic automation and snapshots, complemented by computer automation software linked over MIDI. The MU-4000 meter unit sits above the console.
