History & design
The Tascam DM-3200 is a 48-channel studio digital console (32 inputs and 16 returns) released in the mid-2000s. It offers 16 buses, 8 aux sends and a main stereo bus, with a 4-band parametric EQ and a dynamics section on every channel, plus two effect processors carrying TC Works reverb.
The surface has 17 x 100 mm motorised touch-sensitive faders arranged in layers (inputs, buses, aux, control), an LCD screen and LED-ring rotary encoders. Digital I/O includes three TDIF-1 interfaces (24 channels) and an ADAT link (8 channels); it runs 44.1 to 96 kHz at 24-bit and takes two expansion cards (FireWire, ADAT, AES/EBU, analog, TDIF or surround monitor).
The DM-3200 handles surround mixing and panning up to 6.1 and works as a DAW controller. With the IF-FW/DM card it becomes the computer's FireWire interface and control surface. It was joined by a bigger sibling, the DM-4800, with 64 channels and 24 faders.
