Tascam is the professional audio division of Japan's TEAC Corporation. The brand rose to prominence in the 1970s with affordable multitrack tape machines (the Portastudio range, 1-inch recorders), bringing multitrack recording within reach of the home studio. Through the 1990s and 2000s Tascam followed the move to digital with the DA-88/DA-98 recorders (DTRS format), the TM-D digital mixing consoles and hard-disk recorders, of which the X-48 was the studio flagship.
