Our take
History & design
The Sonicview 24 is a digital mixing console launched by TASCAM in 2022, the first of a range (Sonicview 16, 24 and 24dp) that succeeds the DM-4800. It handles 44 input channels (40 mono and 2 stereo) plus four stereo FX returns, and offers 22 flexible output buses configurable as subgroup, aux or matrix, in addition to the main L/R bus.
At its heart is a 54-bit floating-point FPGA mixing engine, with 32-bit conversion and 96 kHz sampling for a 0.51 ms analogue-to-analogue latency. Each channel has a digital trim, high-pass filter, 4-band parametric EQ, gate, compressor and delay; every bus carries a 31-band graphic EQ, and four multi-effects processors can be freely assigned.
The surface lines up 24 motorised 100 mm faders in three banks of eight, plus a master fader, across seven customisable layers, with eight DCAs. Above them, three 7-inch colour touch screens drive the VIEW interface (Visual Interactive Ergonomic Workflow), each configurable independently. The mic preamps use TASCAM's HDIA design.
On the network side, a 64-in/64-out Dante interface is built in, with two ports for redundancy (ST2022-7), support for Dante Domain Manager, AES67 and SMPTE ST 2110; the console works with the SB-16D stagebox. It also provides a 32×32 USB audio interface, a stereo recorder to SD card or USB flash drive, GPIO inputs and the Sonicview Control software for remote operation (Windows, macOS, iPadOS). DC power redundancy is reserved for the Sonicview 24dp variant.
