Our take
History & design
Premiered at NAMM 2019 and available from February 2019, Solid State Logic's L550 is the most fully equipped console in the Live range. It is built on the Tempest engine, a fourth-generation digital platform with 64-bit processing and Optimal Core Processing (OCP) architecture.
The L550 offers 288 processing paths, a 36 × 36 output matrix and 192 scalable input/output paths, all at 96 kHz. Its surface carries 36 + 2 motorised faders and a 19-inch central touchscreen, with assignable channels and freely assignable VCAs. Connectivity relies on the Blacklight MADI-over-fibre network, with Dante available as an option.
The Live range spans the L100 to the L650; the L550 has since been joined by an L550 Plus version.
