One note, a few notes, many notes: behind those three words hides the single most structuring choice when buying a synth. Here is what monophony, paraphony and polyphony really change about the sound, the playing and the price.
Seen at InfoComm and back in the spotlight at PLASA Show 2026, Violet Audio’s dMix 128 puts the mixing console where you least expect it: in a rack, with no surface, driven from a browser. Behind the bold move sits an FPGA engine handling 128 channels and sub-millisecond latency.
Main output at line level, balanced run, MIC/LINE sensitivity and gain structure: the complete method for wiring a powered speaker to your mixing console.
The first instrument from boutique maker Suonobuono, the Polyvera is a six-voice polyphonic synth and sampler that deliberately recreates the artefacts of early-1980s digital sound, then pushes them through genuine multimode analog filters. It sells for around EUR 1,199 ex VAT.
Long the quiet favourite of engineers who care about sonic neutrality, Samplitude now officially sits inside the Boris FX catalogue. The 2026 release keeps its hybrid audio engine and adds a GPU-accelerated video engine, network control and an immersive Suite edition.
The patch is the invisible skeleton of a live show. Analogue snake, digital stagebox, splits, channel naming, redundancy: here’s how to connect stage to console cleanly, and why a good patch saves your night.
Record a sound, map it across a keyboard, chop it into slices, stretch it without changing its pitch: here’s how a sampler works, from playing a one-shot to chopping a break, and the choices that make the groove.
The equaliser is the most-used and most-misunderstood tool in mixing. Filters, bells, shelves, Q, phase: here’s how an EQ actually works, and how to use it to correct and shape without wrecking the sound.
Telos Alliance adds an autonomous mixing engine, CastCompanion, to its Jünger Audio flexAI platform. An AI reads live voices while Jünger’s deterministic algorithms do the processing, bundling automixing, denoising, voice enhancement and EBU R128 S4 loudness control.
Sample rate, bit depth, A/D-D/A conversion: this guide untangles what sample rate and bit depth actually govern, why 24-bit serves headroom rather than your ears, and which setting to choose without chasing the biggest number.
