Other
| Origin | Conçue et fabriquée à Plougoumelen (Bretagne, France). |

Our take
History & design
The Sy40 (2005) is the compact member of InnovaSon's Sy series, from the French manufacturer based in Plougoumelen, Brittany. It uses the house architecture: a control surface (“Compact”) paired with the Sy40-8 processing module (Mix Box), which hosts all mixing algorithms. As a standalone system it accepts up to 6 audio I/O modules and, with the digital Stage Box, lets you select 48 active inputs from 72 mic/line and 26 buses from 48 possible outputs (Sensoft 8.1 configuration).
Processing is generous: on every input, variable low-cut, noise gate, compressor/limiter and 4-band EQ; on selected output modules, 8-band parametric EQ, compressor/limiter, gate and delay. Ergonomics rely on Xfad™ (expanded fader) mode for inputs and buses, free VCA assignment and fully configurable fader layouts. Audio transport combines the proprietary “Muxipaire” — the brand's founding innovation — with the EtherSound protocol, the DIO interface offering 64 I/O channels over a single Cat5 cable; a DioMADI-ES bridge developed with RME provides MADI interoperability.
Aimed at touring, theatre, broadcast and houses of worship, the Sy40 exemplifies the InnovaSon school of digital live sound: light weight, modularity and an “everything assignable” logic. The company, placed in receivership in 2007 and liquidated in 2011, did not survive the competition, which makes these consoles all the rarer today.
