Our take
History & design
The DiGiCo D5 Broadcast is the broadcast/OB variant of the D5 platform, DiGiCo's first console. It shares the D5 Live architecture: a touchscreen control surface linked by optical fibre (Optocore) and/or MADI to two or three remote I/O racks, all driven by the FPGA-based Stealth Digital Processing engine.
Depending on configuration, the D5 platform processes 64 channels (56 version, 2 MADI ports) or 96 channels (56E version, 4 MADI ports), for a total capacity of around 224 physical inputs/outputs. Every channel carries full EQ and dynamics with snapshot automation. Redundant power and fibre-remoted racks address the reliability demands of live and outside-broadcast work.
The purely broadcast-specific features of this variant (dedicated mix-minus buses, GPIO, surface redundancy) are not all reliably documented and are flagged for verification rather than reconstructed. The D5 was superseded by the SD series (including the SD5B for broadcast).
