History & design
The Calrec Type R is a modular, fully IP broadcast mixing console launched in 2018. It breaks away from the one-piece surface: its physical control system is just three slimline panels — a fader panel (6 × 100 mm motorised faders, each with 4 customisable buttons and a small 96×96 TFT display), a large soft panel (LSP) and a small soft panel (SSP) — that can be added or removed as simply as an Ethernet cable.
At the heart of the system, a 2U chassis carries the DSP and integrated I/O resources; a single core can power up to three independent mixing environments with no DSP sharing. The backbone is natively AoIP (SMPTE 2110, AES67), 5.1 capable, and runs at 44.1 / 48 / 96 kHz.
The soft panels are configured through the Panel Designer application, letting the ergonomics be tailored to each operator and presets recalled between shows. Type R comes in Radio and TV variants.
