History & design
The Amek Rembrandt (1991) is a large digitally-controlled analogue mixing console, designed in Manchester by British maker Amek. Built around an in-line, dual-path architecture (CH and MIX sections per channel strip), it combines the company's analogue know-how — Angela-type preamps, a 4-band EQ with swept semi-parametric mids — with computer-driven SuperTrue automation.
Its signature feature is the Virtual Dynamics system: up to 40 digitally-controlled analogue dynamics processors (gates, compressors/limiters, expanders, auto-panners) switchable between the two paths, on top of fader, mute and switch automation. The console provides 16 aux busses, 24 multitrack busses, 31-segment LED metering and an integrated Bantam jackfield, with a quoted bandwidth of 10 Hz to 120 kHz.
Built in small numbers and offered in several frame sizes, the Rembrandt remains a rare console, emblematic of the digitally-controlled-analogue era that preceded fully digital desks. (Specifications from the Reverb listing and SuperTrue documentation; details vary by unit configuration.)
