Description
A large in-line analogue AMEK console, the Hendrix pairs the in-house 4-band parametric EQ and SSM 2016 preamps with PC-driven SUPERTRUE VCA automation. To me it is a 90s studio desk built for rock and live production: an honest analogue sound, classic in-line ergonomics, and solid VCA automation without going fully digital.

History & design
The AMEK Hendrix is an in-line analogue studio console released by AMEK in the early 1990s. Offered in 40- or 56-channel frames, it handles up to 80 mono and 8 stereo signals simultaneously, with equalisation on most of them. Each channel carries AMEK's in-house 4-band parametric equaliser — the same one fitted to the M2500, G2520 and APC1000 — with two overlapping pass filters, and an SSM 2016 microphone preamp circuit. Bussing is fully balanced (balanced inputs and outputs), with 12 auxiliary sends and 24 multitrack buses. Automation is provided as standard by the PC-driven AMEK/Steinberg SUPERTRUE system: fader-level and mute automation, plus 8 automatable switches per channel and up to 16 VCA fader groups. Mix data is compatible with the AMEK Mozart console. The Hendrix belongs to the line of AMEK consoles designed in Manchester in Graham Langley's tradition, alongside the Einstein and the contemporary BCIII broadcast desk.
