History & design
The 9098i is a large-format analogue in-line console, designed in the mid-1990s by Rupert Neve with Graham Langley for AMEK and launched late in the decade. AMEK billed it as "the last word" in analogue consoles.
The audio path is fully analogue: Rupert Neve mic amps with 0–78 dB gain, a 4-band EQ with swept filters, and transformer outputs. Control relies on Supertrue V4 automation — dynamic automation of up to 24 switches per module, Virtual Dynamics on both paths, Recall of every non-automated control, machine control and SMPTE sync. The console offers a 48-track routing matrix, an LCRS bus with four additional stereo buses, 16 automated auxiliaries, motorised faders on channel and monitor paths, and 5.1 capability. Frames range from 16 to 120 input modules.
