Yamaha MD8

8-track MiniDisc multitrack recorder with built-in mixer

Studio Discontinued 1996 · 🇯🇵 Japan · Digital

Description

The MD8 pushed the digital home studio forward at a pivotal moment: eight tracks on MD DATA, a real little analog mixer on top, and tape hiss finally left behind. You record, bounce (ping-pong) with no audible loss, punch in on cue, all in a box that sits on the corner of a desk. It's dated now — compressed ATRAC, 44.1 kHz, no non-linear editing — but this is the machine that moved a generation from the cassette four-track to digital.
