Yamaha AW4416

Yamaha's all-in-one digital studio: O2R-style mixer, 16-track hard-disk recorder and CD burner

Description

The AW4416 is Yamaha's flagship audio workstation of the late 1990s: in a single chassis, a 44-channel digital mixer directly derived from the O2R, a 16-track hard-disk recorder, a sampler and an optional CD-RW burner. For many home-studio owners and small studios it was THE way to record, mix and master an album with no computer and no patching. I see it as a pivotal machine: the last generation of all-in-one workstations before the software DAW took over. Motorised faders, per-channel EQ and dynamics, automation: it offered genuine console ergonomics.
