History & design
The UF8 is a digital audio workstation (DAW) controller released by Solid State Logic in February 2021 as part of the U Series. It processes no audio: it drives compatible DAWs (Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Cubase/Nuendo, Ableton Live, Studio One) over the HUI/MCU protocol and the SSL 360° configuration software.
The surface carries eight 100 mm motorised touch-sensitive faders, nine push rotary encoders (one per channel plus an endless edit encoder) and eight high-resolution colour TFT displays showing channel name, level and parameters. Each unit provides forty-three assignable keys across five banks, backlit RGB keys and an all-metal chassis with a stand adjustable to six angles.
Up to four UF8 units chain together into a thirty-two-channel controller, and the system integrates with the other U Series modules: the UC1 (control of the Channel Strip and Bus Compressor plug-ins) and the UF1 (monitoring and transport). The computer connection is over USB; power comes from a dedicated mains supply.
