Our take
History & design
System T is Solid State Logic's native-IP broadcast production platform, launched in 2015; the S500 is its large control surface. Unlike traditional consoles, System T fully separates surface, software engine and network: everything runs over IP (Dante, AES67, SMPTE ST 2110-30), and the surface merely drives an engine that can even run with no physical console.
The processing core is the Tempest engine, built on general-purpose processors (Optimal Core Processing), with 64-bit floating-point mixing for virtually unlimited headroom, backed by SSL's SuperAnalogue preamp heritage. A single engine handles up to 2048 inputs and 2048 outputs; one gigabit link carries 512 channels at 48 kHz or 256 channels at 96 kHz.
The S500 is a modular surface of touch tiles (Channel Tile, Fader Tile, Master Tile) and meter bridges, fully assignable. All System T surfaces share the same software, easing mixed studio/OB configurations and integration into a modern broadcast IP backbone.
