Our take
History & design
The KLANG:fabrik, launched in 2015, is an immersive in-ear monitor mixing processor. Where a conventional in-ear mix is stereo, the fabrik places every source in a 3D sound field through binaural processing, cutting fatigue and letting musicians lower their listening level (up to 6 dB less on average). A single unit generates individual immersive mixes for 16 musicians from up to 56 sources, and multiple units chain together for more.
A 2U rack box with redundant power supplies, it is also a full audio-network router: 64×64 Dante, optional 64×64 MADI BNC (switchable 128×0), 32×32 optical ADAT, Word Clock, plus 16 balanced analog line-level outputs (to RF transmitters or headphone amps). Sample rates run from 44.1 to 96 kHz at a processing latency below 3 ms. Control is via the KLANG app (iOS, Android, Windows, macOS) or straight from the faders of a DiGiCo SD console. The unit was named Audio Media International's “Gear of the Year 2015”.
