Our take
History & design
The Aurus is the high-end digital mixing console from Germany's Stage Tec, introduced in the early 2000s. It embodies the “direct-access console” principle: a dedicated physical control per function, with no menu navigation, for immediate live operation.
Its architecture is based on the NEXUS / NEXUS Star routing system: all the DSP power sits in a 19-inch rack, which dramatically lightens the surface. The slim, light chassis can be moved by two people. Depending on the NEXUS configuration, the Aurus addresses up to 800 audio channels, 128 mix buses and 96 channel strips/faders.
Processing runs in 40-bit floating point, with Stage Tec's in-house 32-bit TrueMatch converters, renowned for their dynamic range. Reliability in critical operation is ensured by self-test, hot-swappable components, redundant power supplies and fibre-optic links. The console handles stereo and 5.1 in parallel (up to 7.1), static and dynamic automation, and extensive logic control for shows and events.
