History & design
The AURUS platinum is German manufacturer Stage Tec's high-end digital mixing console, introduced in 2013 as a redesign of the original AURUS (early 2000s). It keeps the brand's 'direct-access' philosophy — one dedicated physical control per parameter, no menu navigation — while modernising the surface electronics and network integration.
The console is only a control surface: audio processing and routing are handled by the remote NEXUS system and its NEXUS STAR routing core, to which the AURUS platinum connects. Depending on the NEXUS configuration, the system handles up to roughly 800 audio channels, 128 mix buses and up to 96 channel strips/faders. Stage Tec's TrueMatch converters provide very-wide-dynamic-range A/D conversion.
For connectivity, the AURUS platinum relies on MADI and AES/EBU via NEXUS, and supports audio-over-IP infrastructures up to SMPTE ST 2110 for integration into modern broadcast backbones. The console is available in frames from 16 to 96 faders and mainly targets broadcast production (TV studios, OB vans) and large venues.
