History & design
The Stage Tec Cantus is Stage Tec's first digital mixing console, launched in 1994 and installed as early as 1995 at Bavarian public broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk. It introduced the architecture that would define the brand: a strict separation between the NEXUS I/O matrix and the 32-fader control surface. It offers 40 × 28-bit TrueMatch mic inputs, up to 188 inputs and 164 outputs, and surround features. The user interface, designed by co-founder and tonmeister Harald Klaus with an independent designer, earned an iF Design Award in 1997. Manufacturer support ended in 2017, but some Cantus consoles remain in use.
