Our take
History & design
The SL 9000 J Series, launched by Solid State Logic in 1994, was billed by the maker as its ultimate analogue console. It introduced SuperAnalogue technology: a coupling-capacitor-free signal path with very wide bandwidth and extremely low distortion, giving the bus a more open, more linear signature than the earlier E and G series.
A digitally controlled analogue console, the 9000 J combines Ultimation moving-fader automation with Total Recall settings recall, both driven by the console's built-in computer: the mix stays fully analogue while positions, routing and snapshots are stored digitally. Each channel offers a 4-band EQ switchable between E and G modes, a dynamics section (compressor/limiter, expander/gate) and a high-pass filter. The bus architecture comprises 48 multitrack buses, 4 stereo buses, a main stereo bus (optional LCR) and 8 auxiliaries (6 mono FX sends and a stereo cue bus). Frames run from 24 to 96 channels; the 9064 J model is a 64-channel frame.
