History & design
The ProControl Edit Pack is an expansion module for the Digidesign ProControl control surface (dedicated to Pro Tools) — not a standalone controller. It has no faders: it is the “editor's and surround engineer's cockpit”. It adds two motorized touch-sensitive pan joysticks (DigiPanner) for surround, a two-button trackball, a QWERTY keyboard colour-coded to Pro Tools shortcuts, eight high-resolution 40-segment output meters (monitoring up to 7.1), selection displays (start/end/length), timeline and machine controls, and 20 dual-function edit keys. It requires Pro Tools 5.1 or higher.
ProControl (the 8-motorized-fader main unit, launched 1998) could be expanded with Fader Packs (8 faders, up to 48 channels) and the Edit Pack. Together they were a mainstay of music, TV and especially film/post rooms until superseded by the ICON D-Control (2004) and D-Command (2005) surfaces. Period price of the Edit Pack: ≈ US$7,495. The control link is 10BaseT Ethernet (control data only, no audio).
