The Sony DMX-P01 is a portable digital mixer designed for electronic news gathering (ENG) and electronic field production (EFP). It combines the convenience of a field mixer with the fidelity of high-resolution digital audio, in a compact battery-powered chassis.
It offers four electronically balanced XLR inputs, switchable mic/line, with gain control, switchable +48 V phantom power, low-cut filter, and programmable compressor and limiter per channel. Channels 1/2 and 3/4 can be stereo-linked. Output is on two balanced analog XLRs (mic/line) and digitally via AES/EBU and S/PDIF; a second S/PDIF input allows cascading several units.
Processing is fully digital: 24-bit A/D and D/A converters, 32-bit signal processing, and 48 and 96 kHz sampling. An LCD shows levels and settings. The scene memory feature instantly recalls up to ten user configurations (including limiter and compressor settings), a real plus when switching operators or shoots.
