History & design
The MXP-3000 is a modular analogue mixing console launched by Sony in the late 1980s, offered in several frame sizes (the 36-channel MXP-3036 being one variant). Its architecture uses VCA faders allowing grouping, solo, mute and mix automation — the latter relying on an optional external automation computer. The VCAs can be bypassed to restore a direct, non-VCA audio path.
Sonically, the MXP-3000 is known for the character of its preamps and EQ section, which keeps it sought-after for analogue tracking.
