Akai
Founded in Japan in 1929, Akai Electric built its reputation on consumer tape recorders before its professional arm, Akai professional M.I. Corp., developed the sampler (S series) and digital recorder (DD and DR series) lines that shaped 1990s studios. Post-production know-how from the DD1500 system was carried over into the DR4d, DR8 and DR16 hard-disk recorders. After the Akai group's financial troubles around 2000, the Akai Professional brand continued in musical instruments and MIDI controllers (today under the inMusic group).
