History & design
The Neotek Élan is an analogue recording console with an inline architecture, sitting just below the Élite, the brand's flagship. It shares the Élite's all-alloy frame, interconnect system and high-grade components. The signal path stays fully analogue: Neotek's own discrete mic preamp, known for being clean and quiet, replaces the single-chip solutions of competitors.
Each channel offers a four-band equalizer with sweepable frequencies, praised for its musicality. The monitor control can either double the console's usable size or create a total of thirty auxiliary sends. Routing relies on Neotek's proprietary 'Common Sense' bus system, presented as a more sophisticated approach than conventional balanced buses for keeping noise and distortion to a minimum.
Automation is optional and can be ordered as VCA, moving-fader or MIDI: it is this automated version, appearing around 1990, that sets the Élan apart from purely manual desks. Offered in several frame sizes (from 16 channels), it is commonly found in 28-channel form. Low-profile in the market, it remains valued by studios after a neutral analogue sound and careful build.
