History & design
Introduced in the mid-2000s, the System 5-MC is a variant of Euphonix's System 5 digital console integrating the MC Pro controller as its centre section. The surface uses System 5 channel strips (motorized faders, eight encoders per channel, high-resolution TFT displays) and is configured from 16 to 48 faders.
Its hallmark is workstation control over EuCon, Euphonix's Ethernet control protocol, which natively drives Nuendo, Pyramix, Logic Pro, Final Cut/Soundtrack Pro, Digital Performer or Sonar; non-EuCon DAWs are addressed over HUI or Mackie Control. The EuCon application runs on a dedicated PC, and audio travels via Euphonix PCI MADI cards or an ASIO interface. With Euphonix acquired by Avid in 2010, EuCon went on to spread across the Avid MC/Artist surfaces.
