The Euphonix CSII is a digitally controlled analog mixing console derived directly from the Crescendo, Euphonix's first console (1990). The audio signal stays entirely in the analog domain: the digital section only drives the controls (gains, EQ, panning, mutes), stored and automated by a support computer connected to the surface.
Compared with the original Crescendo, the CSII gained a faster (10 Mbit/s) interface to the computer through the Z180-based APU module, full dynamic automation, flat-panel displays and motorized faders. The system scales up to around a hundred channels (up to 102) by combining two audio mainframes with a larger control frame. Its parametric equalizer uses a state-variable filter topology modeled in the Laplace domain, which made it the first mixing console to display a real-time on-screen frequency-response curve.
