Our take
History & design
The System 5 is Euphonix's first fully digital console, unveiled at the Fall 1999 AES convention. It runs at 24-bit / 96 kHz and handles surround natively. Processing is built on the DF64 engine: DSP racks each carrying ten Analog Devices SHARC cards in floating point, with one to four DF64 engines federated per system.
Every channel offers a 4-band parametric EQ plus 20 Hz-20 kHz high-, low- and band-pass filters. The surface is assignable: eight rotary 'Phat' encoders per strip, with built-in position LEDs, reassign on the fly (pan, EQ, dynamics...). Modular, the console configures for virtually any mixing application: large-scale film production, on-air broadcast, post-production and music.
