History & design
The VENUE D-Show, unveiled by Digidesign in February 2005, is the brand's first live digital mixing system and the largest surface in the VENUE range. It is a modular system: the D-Show control surface (an 8-strip Main Unit, expandable with up to three 16-strip Sidecars for a maximum of 56 faders), a FOH Rack housing the Mix Engine-card processing core, and a remote Stage Rack holding the recallable mic preamps, linked by a digital snake (proprietary cable, with an optional redundant parallel run).
A standard VENUE system handles 48 mic inputs and up to 64 fully equipped input channels, expandable to 96 mic inputs and 128 channels feeding 24 buses. The engine provides EQ and dynamics on every channel, 24 assignable graphic EQs and, crucially, support for the same TDM/AAX plug-ins as Pro Tools — the platform's central selling point. Paired with Pro Tools, the system enables multitrack recording and Virtual Soundcheck. A compact single-surface variant, the D-Show Profile, appeared in 2007, later followed by the Mix Rack and SC48.
